The linkage, tenuous at best, is most often hanging more by
faith (delusion–whatever) than tensile strength. But still
a thread, nonetheless. Though perhaps just a function of the
ruts, the wagon follows the team and since the trail is a long
down-hill shot, maybe them mules is just tryin’ to stay out of
the way. Ergo, they ain’t the cause of the runaway at all. As
Hume pointed out, one thing coming after another doesn’t
prove a thing.
