Ring, Ring

The hammer rings against the nail
Fixing the line limned by the rail
Driving forward ’gainst the mirrored heat
Yard after yard the steel tool sings

Swing, strike, pause, repeat

One day others will fly over this very spot
Long after the dead drivers are forgot
But the sweat of their brow still seeps deep
Beneath the rider who in darkness sleeps
