“Striving to better, oft we mar what’s well.”
King Lear I.ii
Shakespeare
Good enough for the all-to-follow,
Well, too, alone, left.
Things could always be made
a little better
But the law of diminishing returns
can’t be ignored.
For some, the last curlicue
must be squiggled just so.
But for others,
a thing’s true character
Is more firmly shown
in its broad and gross lack of detail.
Less is not more, but for these latter,
more often seems lesser so.
